Why DIY is a No-No for Exterior House Painting

It gives you a sense of accomplishment and a host of other benefits. You could literally go DIY for almost anything. Name it and you can go the DIY route with it.

But there are some things that you shouldn’t do on your own. Or at least try to avoid it because it might not be the best idea to do so.

Trying to paint the exterior of your house on your own is one of those things.

Below are some of the main reasons why going DIY is a no-no for exterior house painting:

Safety Reasons

Safety should always be a priority in any home project. So it goes without saying that it should be the case for an exterior paint job as well. Except that, if you’re a homeowner and you want to do the painting job yourself, safety might not be a guarantee. You want to, of course, but it will be very difficult for someone who isn’t a professional to maintain and ensure safety. One of the main safety issues with exterior painting has to do with the use of a ladder. Placing it on uneven surfaces or on the slippery ground could cause the person on it to fall, which is extremely dangerous. This is just one major example and pros are capable and experienced in making sure that this doesn’t happen.

Comfort Issues

If you haven’t done something before or have only done it a few times then you’re probably not going to be comfortable while doing it. That’s bound to be the issue when you try to do the exterior painting duties of your home yourself. And if you’re not comfortable while painting your home’s exterior, then you’re probably not going to do a good job at it. Professionals, on the other hand, are already very much used to the tasks of painting every conceivable surface. So they’d be comfortable doing the task and would be able to make quick and beautiful work of it.

Expenses

At first thought, it would seem that DIY exterior house painting would be the more affordable choice. It’s easy to assume that it’s going to be the case. The supplies alone could much more than what you initially bargained for. Of course, the larger the project, the higher the expenses. And if you commit mistakes while doing the project then you can only expect the cost to go up. You’ll likely end up spending way more than what you planned for at the start.

Questionable Quality

There is no question that you’d want to do as good of a job as possible. It’s your home so you wouldn’t want it to look terrible. But the question is, are you capable of doing a good job? One that’s decent enough to look at and not something that looks even worse than what it was before. Uneven paint on the surfaces, paint drippings on the most inappropriate places. These are just some of the issues with quality that you can encounter with your DIY painting project.

There’s really no reason to go full DIY with your home’s exterior painting project – unless you’re skilled or very experienced at it. If that’s not the case, you understand why DIY is a no-no for exterior house painting.
